2010: Create & Follow My Own Path

28 December 2009

♥ don't have a ruddy clue where I found this but it's the biggest kick up the arse I've had all day..!

Not the greatest day of my week, but I'm not letting myself be tied down by any stale views people may bring to the table. After all, the one thing I've learnt from 2009 is to create and follow my own path. Whatever my chosen path leads to is down to me and no-one else! :)

A few things I'm going to do to prepare for 2010..

Clean out my room.. bleh!
Sort out my makeup (What needs throwing away? Bring more colour into my day make-up!)
Tidy out my wardrobe and discover gaps that need filling (hello skinny trousers/jeans/blazer..!) instead of impulse buying
Write Thankyou emails to family..
Work out new foods to incorporate into my day (more smoothies/juices purrr-lease!! but more variety). Getting bored of the same-old.
Clear out 'favourites' folders
Create a 2010 visual life proposal.. and a new style collage..! (Photoshop? By hand?)
Tear down old pictures/quotes from my walls - replace them with fresh quotes and images
Create goals. (What do I want to achieve this year? Is there anything new I'd like to try? Create personal deadlines; scribble them in my diary so I can review them each week, and make a start asap!!!)

Decide how I'd like to bring in the New Year. (Make it go out with a bang!)
Find new music/bands to be the soundtrack to my year
Find a quiet moment to reflect on the year and all you've achieved. (I've done this already, and written a list of the achievements in the back of my 2009 diary. Reading it makes everything more real and helps you realise quite how much can happen in one year! Confidence, girl..!)

and finally.. do not watch ridiculous celebrity news-based 2009 highlights shows, usually shown on forlorn BBC/ITV channels. You are better than that..! (Okay, Big Fat Quiz' on New Year's Day is acceptable..)

What I'm Reading, Watching & Loving

27 December 2009

Reading... Grazia double festive issue & The Time Traveler's Wife

Drinking... OJ & cranberry juices & water & caramel cappuccino. Pretty much what I drink at the mo!

Listening... right now, The Temper Trap - Fader. Been downloading Neil Young, Weezer, Temper Trap & Joy Division. Mostly already had all of it but yea. OOH, and Flo & Machine as always, because I've just got her album for xmas (lol. I'm lazy and wait months, obviously)

Wanting... to not be all grumppppperrs right now :( and to eat sunday roast.. yummers.

Watching... hahaha the last thing I watched was The Real Da Vinci Code. I'm awesomely nerdy like that and love conspiracy theories. Usually, Gossip Girl obsessed & chrimbo telly

Loving... Christmas breakkkkkkkkk, fresh unread books, my cat curled up beside me with her new red collar on (awwh), my deer/panda PJs & writing. Plusplusplussssss, yule log.. eviiiiiiiiil eeeeeeeeevil stuff :(

2009: A Year of Reflection, Change, Learning and Growing Up

15 December 2009

1. What did you do in 2009 that you’d never done before?
Drank legally! Went on a pub crawl (illegally)! Went to Reading Festival! Moved somewhere civilised..! Did a lot of things independently that I didn't have the bottle to do before :) It was a year of change, growing and adjustment, and I'm massively grateful for it.

2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
Yep :) It was just a variation on the year before's. I constantly referred to it throughout the year, so it made me do a lotta things I wouldn't have done if I hadn't made that pact with myself. 2009's definitely set me up for 2010's newly-crowned "Year of Adventure"; a brand new decade aswell as a new year!
Next year my resolution is gonna be centred around ACTIONS. Create my own magic (!) and fulfill those lingering dreams. Don't be afraid of the obstacles that block the path of where you want to get to!

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?
Thankfully not

5. What countries did you visit?
Stayed in Great Britannia this year!

6. What would you like to have in 2010 that you lacked in 2009?
Adventures, spontaneoity, magiiiic.

7. What date from 2009 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
I can't remember the specific date, ha, but I'll always remember a day in October. It was the closure of a chapter, and the beginning of a fresh new one. Big weight off my chest!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Haha, the main ones I'm proud of are personal

9. What was your biggest failure?
Hmm, January time. It taught me a lot though :)

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Illness, of course. Not serious though thank God. No injuries!

11. What was the best thing you bought?
My laptopppp :)

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Surprisingly, my dad.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No-one memorable?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Oh lordy, clothes, magazines. The magazine habit has been knocked down a fair bit though. Realised I was just buying them for the sake of it by the end.

15.What made you really really really excited?
Moving house. Reading Festy, kind of. Friend coming home. My birthday.

16.What song will forever remind you of 2009?
Um, any of Florence & the Machine and Radiohead. They were the soundtrack to my year.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder? happier
b) thinner or fatter? thinner

c) richer or poorer? hhaha poorer!
18. What do you wish you’d done more of?
Spontaneity and using my imagination.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With the familee at home. Looking forward to a proper christmas for the first time in a while!

21. How will you be spending New Year's?
With my best friend and various drunken people I probably don't like!

22. Did you fall in love in 2009?
With myself. Cheesy but yeah. I respect myself so much more now.

23. How many one-night stands?

24. What were your favourite TV programs?
Gossip Girl, True Blood, Ugly Betty, QI, etcetc.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?
Nah. The best quote I heard earlier this year; "Hate is too close to love and I don't have enough time for that!

26. What was the best book you read?
The Gift - Cecelia Ahern

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
Florence & the Machine

28. What did you want and get?
Can't think of anything specific, lots probably.

29. What did you want and not get?
To see someone

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
'Up'. Umm, what else was there?! Probably something I've missed!

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?
Afternoon tea which was cute. Then had a few cocktails + dinner in the city with the bestie, before wandering about the german market. aww. It was nice :)

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Um, friends being here instead of moving away!

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2009?
Er, I didn't have one? My taste changed completely halfway through the year. I'm thinking of starting fairly anew with my wardrobe in 2010. Gonna start keeping a scrapbook & continue with the visuals to inspire me and stop me from sliding from one style to another *every day* and then getting confused/mismatched. A good thing about this year is that I started dressing according to my shape, and actually loving it.

34. What kept you sane?
Friends and personal development rubbish. I garnered lots of positive mantras and quotes this year, which might sound yawnsville for some people but it worked for me!

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
ohhhhh god, errr. olly murs. That is an embarrassing fact..

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
The whole Obama inauguration mania, definitely.

37. Who did you miss?
My grandparents

38. Who was the best new person(s) you met?
Does the amazing guy at T count?

39. Side question...who would you like to get to know better?
Mmm.. someone. Maybe.

40. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2009:
Change is good. Fear is good. It makes you know you're alive!

41. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year (any song from any year):
I'm not a girl, not yet a woooooman ;)

Hermione de Paula, Luella & Liz Ham

10 November 2009

Having spent the last couple of not-so-pretty days tucked up in bed with endless mugs of hot honey & lemon - curse the flu! - it was veeery comforting to take a look at some pretty pictures today. Here are the ~stuff of beautyzz~ that've been rocking my world this week..

Happy Belated Hallowe'en!

1 November 2009

Reading... The Essential Dalai Lama - HH Dalai Lama. Strangely captivating & inspiring. I've always had a secret soft spot for Buddhism though. Haha. Seriously no idea why.

Listening... to the same music over and over because I'm yet to transfer my mahoosive itunes collection to laptop :( I keep listening to:
Talk Show Host - Radiohead,
You've Got The Love - Florence & the Machine,
Dreadlock Holiday - 10cc,
Dreaming - Blondie,
One of Us Must Know - Bob Dylan,
Time Warp - Rocky Horror Show,
People Are Strange - The Doors.

Watching... guilty pleasures because Autumn is awesome for telly. True Blood, Gossip Girl, Ugly Betty (kinda going off it though) and Hollyoaks.
Films: Up - it was so cute and a good ole classic animation. On par with Wall-E imo.
Paranormal Activity - :S maybe I should have watched it alone with the lights off - and not laughed - but it really wasn't as horrifying as everyone is making out. There were some awesome scenes but they were few and far between. I think it's because I'm into (real) "paranormal activity" already so it doesn't shock me like it used to.

Buying... camera film, birthday outfit (must.find.knock-out.dress. even though I live in dresses 90% of time anyway), cranberry lippie (i'm a gofffff around Hallowe'en), vitaminzzz & water & blueberry and ginseng energy drinks (hopefully why I'll be hyper and glowing this time next month).

Loving... ♥ freeeeeeeeeedom. Plus, the fact that everywhere I read my horoscope this month it declares how exciting and rejuvenating things are gonna start getting - "New paths, opportunities... your life's beginning!" - and feeling in agreement. I love taking responsibility of my own destiny :) It's like shedding the skin of who I used to be and creating the person I wanna be now.
♥ COCKTAILS.. the pub are making cocktails on my actual birthday. So cute. Infact, even drunk-boy is excited for my birthday hahaha. + "it feels like only yesterday the women were stubbing their cigarettes out and passing you around the bar" - proof I was a classy baby. Happyhappy!
♥ Feeling lucky for what I've gained and learnt from the last few years.

Wanting... a lotta good memories created this birthday, festive season & new year.
Admittedly, also to do something about my feelings for someone before it's too late. I just remember how I felt when I realised it wasn't gonna happen last time - hurt like a bitch. Seems like a waste not doing anything, considering how uncertain life is anyway. Kinda scared. We'll see.

I'm off for a birrov pampering, tea drinking, txting & x factor'ing now :)

Interior Inspirations: World Map Blinds, Disco Stairs & Birdcages

28 October 2009

I found a diary (a Jacqueline Wilson diary, no less) from when I was clearly a very ambitious and fairytale-loving 10 year old. In answer to the question "what do you want to be when you grow up?" I wrote an enthusiastic and childlike reply involving singing, dancing and apartments in the city. Oh and, er, a cat. Well, despite the obvious change in perspective on the part of "singing and dancing" - seriously, that is too horrifying to envisage! - I still get slightly misty-eyed when thinking about how my own little hideaway will look. That's possibly why I have a folder full of interior dreams..

PS - before I proceed, don't worry. I'm definitely not victim to the Cath Kidston love-in, with ~shabby chic~ (sickinmouth) floral prints swamping everything from tea towels to dog coats - kill me now, please.

 OmgamazingIwannadrawonmykitchenwall :|:|
Blair Waldorf's wardrobe, uh, yes please

....walk-in wardrobes (drool), disco (!) stairs, world map blinds and birdcages. Um, with regard to the "cat" thing, I'm pretty sure I'll also be living with a lot of felines......

Autumn Photography in Perthshire

22 October 2009

I've had a hectic month to say the least.
But in the midst of madness, I had a lovely (long overdue) break away the other week. The night before, I was a massive stresshead so it was much needed by that point!
A few photos to illustrate...

..hmm, no sign of any Highland cows but this seemed like a possible lead..

I climbed this bad boy. Steep is not the word for it.. pictured is half the way up

Touristy "famous view" shot..

+ lots more, including squirrels, misty mountains & knackered faces but.. we don't wanna give y'that!

;) xoxo

23 September 2009
