Masquerade Ball Style: Inspired by Marie Antoinette

23 February 2009

Masquerade Ball

I've got a party coming up for my bestie's birthday; a "Masquerade Ball" - probably the two most exciting words I've seen written down this year so far! So, I have the unfortunate challenge of seeking out a dress and mask to outshine everyone but the birthday girl (ha). Nah, but really, it's turning out to be a mission. I decided to make that little polyvore collage up there for inspiration. Bit of a mood board, if you like. Oh God, I even attempted putting on false eyelashes tonight for the first time in my life. Hopefully, I didn't look too much like a drag queen after a fist-fight.

I wish everything was like Sofia Coppola's image of Marie Antoinette's balls. So, there'll be the soundtrack of Siouxsie and the Banshees - Halloween playing whilst I frolick around with masked hotties... pretty please..?

One word springs to mind.. empowering!
I just couldn't single out any part of his collection. The whole thing was breathtaking. Wonderful! I feel like claiming him as my own because he initially trained quite close to where I live, haha. He even had a nod to his roots with a drop of tartan at the start. It really seems like every season I like him more and more. 'Definitely grown on me. The nude/black dresses had that perfect balance between being natural and feminine, yet sexy and seductive; something countless designers try to achieve on a seasonal basis. Plus, the fresh glowy makeup just made it look hella sexy whilst letting the clothes take the lead. Loved. It.

PS - Beautiful atmospheric music aswell!
