Reading Festival 2009 / Things I Heart

21 August 2009

*Salute*

Lou Doillon by Karl Lagerfeld

Had a little break from blogging again. Spent far too much time - or maybe not enough - scribbling away in my real diary recently. Had a lovely weekend with a friend; full of lack of sleep, tea, westie pups, long train journeys with books & ipod in tow, morning telly and Perfect Pizza. Pretty chilled up until Sunday when we drove down to the Reading Festival. It was our (including her boyfriend/my 'separated-at-birth' music brother) first time at the southern half of the twinned weekend, and it was nice to have a change for this year. I've got to be honest, though, I missed our little camp immensely from the last couple of years. Too many good memories of waking up to Mr Tambourine Man singalongs, and falling asleep to "Why are there so many people?" "IT'S A FESTIVAL JULIAAAAN!" Back there soon I hope.. pictures to follow in a couple of weeks when her boyfriend gets back from travelling with his camera (!!)

Bands & Acts (that I can remember!)

♥ Noah & The Whale
♥ A little bit of Deadmau5
♥ The View (where I spent the time translating what Kyle was prattling on about)
♥ Brand New (I think most people were falling asleep during this - I certainly felt like I could have..)
♥ Frank Turner (could have lost my voice during this, pretty much)
♥ Junior Simpson (comedian. pretty standard)
♥ Mitch Benn (comedian clutching a guitar)
♥ Bloc Party (surprisingly amazing. They usually bore me live, but that's the first (?) time I've seen them when it wasn't daylight I think)
♥ Radiohead (do I really need to make any comment? Other than oh-my-god-they-played-Creep-what-the-hell. I love Thom's banter in between songs)

Bit clich├ęd but here goes a Things I Heart list..

♥ Cupcake designs that I want to master one day soon..

..and paper creativity in general. I'm craving doing some origami! Ashamedly, will not be as extravagant as this one!

♥ First shots of the filming of SATC2 came out today. Why does this fill me with such glee? Guilty pleasure!

♥ Accessorize!!! I used to hate it, oddly. Toomuchtohandle. Their necklaces are gorgeous right now though. The mothership forced me to buy a new purse today because I was stubbornly clutching tightly (..and growling? er, nah) to my old one which was in, well, lets just say.. dire straits. And I don't mean the band..

♥ Florence Welch. She's just absolutely amaziing! There are only two girls that spring to mind when I'm forced to choose ~heroines and goddess-like idols~ right now and she is one of them. She's gorgeous, captivating, mystical, full to the brim with confidence and reeking of femme fatale. It's no coincidence that I've been toying with the idea of dyeing my hair a vivid shade of auburn one day! Perhaps not soon though, because apparently that idea has been nabbed by a million-and-one female Reading goers over the weekend..

♥ Miss Lily Allen (if you hadn't guessed so far) is the other heroine of mine that I stick up for on a regular basis when people such as Perez Hilton decide to get their trashy claws into her. Like she needs protecting though! Lily is actually fronting the new October issue of ELLE which is out tomorrow (!), and celebrates 25 years of London Fashion Week, meaning tonnes of British designers! Elle and Grazia are going a bit crazy this month setting up competitions galore. Funfun.

My best friend leaves on Sunday to pursue her dreamzz further north. It's not sunk in yet really. I'm going to make a mixtape, and hope she doesn't forget me, ha. Will miss her tonnes, but luckily trains exist for this very reason.
And speaking of trains, it was really refreshing to just sit alone in my own thoughts on my adventures this past weekend without any distractions. I'm like the only person who seems to looove travelling & long journeys. Had one of those moments where a song starts playing which sums up everything you're feeling at that time. I'd forgotten all about it too. My iPod is psychic, I swear.. (alright, how many times do people say that?!?!). I think this would be a failure of an entry if I didn't mention the fact that, no, I didn't get the chance to see the person I mentioned before. Cue violins..!?

There's a billion other things but I'm saving it for when I get my laptop which is in the v. near future, thankfully.. cannot wait to spend less time giving my computer an evil stare-out - just imagine two cowboys preparing to fight in the movies and you've got it - and more time getting on with other things!
PS - since the last entry I have a feeling I've found my ~calling~.. but I'll keep it under wraps 'til I'm certain!! Exciting stuff..

Au revoir xoxo

A Note: Life Update

13 August 2009

Hello!

Slightly miffed because Bestie has just gone away for a couple of weeks to America.. where am I gonna get my calming cheery-uppy pep talks when I'm going a bit mental?? Haha. Tut, lucky girl though! When she gets back I'm going to go see her and have a big catch-up at hers, probably involving jealousy at her all-american tan (goddamnit).

So, what have I been doing... well, mostly being overwhelmed by tonnes to think about. Caffeine is serving me well right now. Infact, one sec while I pop the kettle on.. *brief interlude accompanied by MJ minimix*. Mmm.. et voila, one vanilla cappuccino (foam-at-mouth, etc). Basically, I've been trying to decide what the hell I want to do with my life after a sudden change of heart. Seems I've had one helluva mental growth spurt in 2009 (just, er, not height-wise!). I actually had one of those adrenaline-fuelled evenings this week throughout all of this. Completely have to learn to shut off and stop thinking (!!!)

I found this last week, aww

Apart from that, in the midst of a big ponder on Monday my phone rang. Like, the split second I was about to click 'post' on a ridiculous blog entry on LJ, Blondie starts playing. I think I have a bit of an eery psychic-twin going on. Emma, all cheery and insane (considering she started work at 6am that morning because she's a self-torturing nutter who loves to challenge herself haha), says she's coming to pick me up to go for an urgent coffee goss. So off we go. I got introduced to this guy who I'd vaguely seen for a while where he works but I only knew of him. Noiice. I'm completely surprised he's our age because he just looks a lot older. Then again, me and Emma are like two wee peas in a pod. OH, and, speaking of which, Dundee is now arranged for next week. Hooray.
I've been doing a lot of seaside lovin' the past two weeks. Here goes.. (oh and I have yet to edit anything I'm afraid)

Stephen Fry just tweeted "w00t!". Why does this warm my heart somehow? I love him like an uncle. A very Walking Wikipedia-esque Twitter-obsessed uncle, but an uncle nonetheless.
Also on a Twitter-related note, Courtney Love is spamming me with her "nightmares" about "blood on walls" and "asian kids", and premonitions about people dieing. "I'm on 0 meds, i'm drug free! But i'm hyperventilating and covered in sweat!" What a woman (?!) In her book Dirty Blonde I was mega confused. She's inspiring but insane.. just like most legends I guess.

The amaziiing Fringe is on. I'm not there and probably not going yet again. It's been like two or three years since the last time. Aaaaaaaaaaah. Sadface. I miss Bill Bailey's Steampunk

AND FINALLY... my hotly anticipated festy ticket arrived yesterday. Feels real now. Excited and nervous. Read something which made me feel relieved thank God. Can't wait to compare it to its rebellious little sister (even if I'm only there the last day). Seeing someone who I've waited practically forever for so that's a biit special.

Until next time... xoxo

Travelling Wilbury: Royal Yacht Britannia & the Borders

2 August 2009

This week has been immense. Full to the brim. AND the sun is back out today..! A few highlights....

Monday was cute. Had a calming effect on me; ipod + peace = ace. Went exploring. Hadn't been to that area since I was little. So pretty. Here come the touristy shots..

hiding in the background is a tipi (!!). really want to
spend a night in one someday please?!

Tuesday, me and the partner-in-crime finally watched Harry Potter (shockin'). I would give a long-winded review but, really, it's been done. Especially in love with Luna Lovegood.. my alter ego! Oh, and, thankfully didn't see aforementioned Bra Boy. Phew.

Friday was the turn of the Royal Yacht Britannia. Had been meaning to see it for aaages. Love all things naval. Even wore my cardi with the gold anchor buttons.. haha, not even intentional. Negatives? it's situated next to a shopping centre. Nooooo *coughcough*.

Today, I've mainly been hyperventilating over Switzerland. WHY have I only just embraced it?! Stunning. Magical.

.. and making mini blueberry cheesecakes. Yum.
Just got a call from the bestie who let me hear a blind man covering Don't Stop Me Now. Wicked?! Got asked if it was Stevie Wonder.. I won't go into the rest of that joke! Not exactly PC.
So, we're thinking about a spot of travelling next summer, me and this bestie of mine. It's in its infancy stages but if it happens it'll be kick-ass. Love starting a new goal and feeling the adrenaline when it all falls into place. I'm a massive Sagittarius travel freak.

Special mentions: my friend the birthday girl, caramel lattes, spontaneous bouquets of pink roses, suicidal tendancies ("can we talk about this when we're not actually crossing the bridge?!"), evil M&S food keeping me up at half 3 in the morning, 'cheerful' staff, dodgy milkshake vodka, zooming along roads with Pantera, Muse and MJ blasting, long-awaited photos, txting like crazy, singing in the rain, self-service checkouts, trashy celeb slaughtering, ticket inspector banter "bring 4 pints and pass it around", scottish slang deciphering, UMBRELLAS, blueberries, parisian fantasies, reading insane amounts, shockin' haggis discoveries, "theymakefudgeontheBOAT", getting my sea legs, Shelfari, the ginge cat with a crush on my cat, potential janet jackson "wardrobe malfunction", Top Gear re-enactments, Tender - Blur + New Killer Star - David Bowie.

et voila! xoxo
