Happy 4th Birthday to The Likely Lady!

Since I hit "publish" on that first blog post on January 31st 2009, as a slightly bewildered 17 year old, things have progressed so far in the blogging world, yet The Likely Lady's content is essentially still the same (despite lots of growing-up!)...

Vivetta SS13: Kitsch, Pastels & Cat Prints

28 January 2013

Vivetta are an Italian brand who came across my radar a few years ago, when I discovered them through Carrie's blog in 2009. Formed by Vivetta Ponti in 2008, they are probably most well-known for their cult hit - the Cat Skirt.

So, when I spotted their new SS13 Lookbook on Mademoiselle Robot, I had to post it! Full of kitsch details, pastels, stripes & cats (!!), it screams of summer holidays.. (and "get me outta this dreich Scottish weather!")

#NextGuestBlogger Competition

26 January 2013

Hi Guys,

Next have launched their annual Guest Blogger competition, and I thought I'd get involved and have my say on their new collections..

Heart Jumper from Next AW12
The other night, I had a wee browse in-store and was pleasantly surprised at their offerings this season! They've really been upping their game, and I'm starting to become a regular shopper there.

In December, I stocked up on a few key knitwear pieces which I've been wearing non-stop ever since, including this heart print jumper -->
which I've been teaming with a black polka dot skirt (in habitual Likely Lady fashion..) & thick black tights.

As we're now hitting that awkward mid-winter phase, where the biggest battle is fighting off any feelings of world-weariness, it seems the right time to inject some fun into winter dressing!

Personally, ever since I got a leather biker jacket for Christmas, I've been sticking it on at every opportunity, so it seems apt to conjure up my own response to the following question:
"With leather and sequins being key trends at the moment, how would you incorporate either or both into your daily wardrobe?"
Well, I'll let the pictures do the talking in this case.. Psst, click on the link to see item sources!

I am a big advocate of leather & sparkles for day-time as well as night-time, and have definitely got my eye on the Sequin Spot Top and Super Skinny Coated Jeans! Hey, I can't willingly ignore a polka dot.. especially when it has sequins on it!

What do you think of Next's AW12-SS13 collections? And how are you bringing about a bit of glitz in the snow?

REN Radiance Range: The Review

25 January 2013

So, we're all hopefully still sticking to our January detox plans..?

Recently, I won this wee starter kit from the REN Radiance range as part of Pure Spa's Twitter competition.

They called out to fans to give them their best detox tips, and I was lucky enough to win! These were my tips:
I'm definitely working hard to implement these new habits into 2013! So what could be more appropriate than trying out the REN Glycolactic Radiance Renewal Mask & the Radiance Perfection Serum..?

Getting To Know Me: The Liebster Award

19 January 2013

Hey everyone!

I was recently tagged by Lynsey from Lynsey Mac Makeup for the Liebster Award.
This is basically a great way of giving bloggers with less than 200 followers a wee bit of recognition, through getting to know the person behind the blog.

I thought this was a great idea and am chuffed to be tagged! It's nice to gain a bit of understanding about the person writing, and I guess there's only so much ground-work an 'About Me' page can cover! So, without further ado..

Wildfox SS13: Clueless!

16 January 2013

Another season, another Wildfox lookbook which I love, as ever!

This season, Wildfox have based their SS13 collection around the '90s film Clueless
(is it me or is this '90s film theme a trend in itself - Miss Selfridge SS13 anyone..?).

Golden Globes 2013: Red Carpet Arrivals

14 January 2013

Zooey Deschanel in Oscar de la Renta
Hey guys, haven't done any red carpet coverage in a whiiiile, so I thought the Golden Globes 2013 was a good place to start again, given that most of the celebrities looked beautiful last night!
Forgive me, but this post will definitely be more visual than wordy! The dresses speak volumes..

Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins: The Review

11 January 2013

Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins is a night-time renewal cream I was interested in trying out, given that I didn't previously use a specialist night cream at all. Fortunately, I used some birthday money in December to go on an Origins binge (eek!) and had the opportunity to receive 4 product samples alongside my order. I picked this, Modern Friction, Plantscription serum & Youthtopia Lift firming cream. Quite pleased I got 30ml - the full-size product is 50ml!

Origins recommend that this product is best suited to Combination/Dry skin types, while the Oil-Free version is better suited to Oily skin types.

Miss Selfridge SS13

9 January 2013

Miss Selfridge have recently unveiled their SS13 lookbook and I love their trend concepts this season so much that I had to share it!

Their focus is on sheer, floaty materials reminiscent of the costumes in Sofia Coppola's Virgin Suicides and of laidback '70s summers. Slips and lingerie detailing reappears, layered with sheer maxi dresses. Plus, light denim makes it feel even more summery. These trends work well with the embroidered kimono jackets which add a luxe, more grown-up touch to the look. Finally, they style it all up with high wooden sandals - which I've been meaning to purchase for years since Topshop released these wedges during another '70s phase..

The New Year Begins In A Snow-Storm Of White Vows*

7 January 2013

*Quote by George William Curtis

January. A month of fresh goals, fresh thinking and fresh starts. A month that is filled with good intentions built on a clean slate. Goals are implemented; some cast aside as the weeks slide by, and ultimately, their success depends on sheer hard work and perseverance.

Each year, I begin a fresh crisp page of my Moleskine (which, incidentally, is this little beauty in 2013) with my dreams and ambitions written out neatly for the year. So, I thought I'd write my top 5 goals here. I've seen a lot of fellow bloggers like Roisin & Morag, amongst others, openly publishing their resolutions online with the hope it diminishes any shying away by the end of January i.e. everyone knows!).

So, without further ado...
