Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins: The Review

11 January 2013

Origins High Potency Night-A-Mins is a night-time renewal cream I was interested in trying out, given that I didn't previously use a specialist night cream at all. Fortunately, I used some birthday money in December to go on an Origins binge (eek!) and had the opportunity to receive 4 product samples alongside my order. I picked this, Modern Friction, Plantscription serum & Youthtopia Lift firming cream. Quite pleased I got 30ml - the full-size product is 50ml!

Origins recommend that this product is best suited to Combination/Dry skin types, while the Oil-Free version is better suited to Oily skin types.

The Claim

The High-Potency Night-A-Mins promises to:
"Put dullness to rest. Wake up radiant & refreshed. Now nature's famed night cream is newly fortified with a system of time-released resurfacers plus Vitamins C, E & H, minerals & moisture-rich replenishers. While relaxing aromas lull you to sleep, skin sloughs away dry, dead layers. Helps the appearance of dullness. 98% of those who tested it agreed - used regularly, skin was renewed and refreshed in the AM. Helps the slumber deprived wake up on the bright side of the bed. So why face dull skin. Sleep it off tonight."
Anything which claims to make skin feel more refreshed in the morning deserves at least a wee test run!

The Reality

After taking my make-up off and then cleansing my skin in the evening, I like to apply Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair (depending on how congested my skin is feeling) followed by this over the top.

My favourite part about this product is the scent, as silly as that sounds. It's the first thing that strikes you about it. It is slightly zesty and orangey, which might put off a lot of people. Scented skin-care is something I'm not usually keen on using, as I tend to find it breaks me out. However, this product is a thick, silky cream which feels luxurious on the skin and sinks in well.

After applying this before bed, I notice that the following morning my skin is plumped and glowy, and a heck of a lot healthier-looking. On regular use, I also noticed that some acne scarring, redness & bumps had reduced, and when I stopped using the product, they gradually returned. This could be down to another cause (e.g. stress, weather, diet, etc) but it was interesting to note!

To be honest, I would like to try out the oil-free version for comparison, as I have combination skin which is drier in the winter months. I imagine it wouldn't work so well when my skin is at its oiliest in the summer!

Worthy of Repurchase?

At an average £33 for the full-size 50ml version, I'm wary as to whether I can justify a full purchase. However, if I can manage to find another 30ml sample size, I might just go with that again!

If you want the healthy glow & a lovely bed-time scent, I do recommend this product to anyone who can justify the price-tag. However, I'm thinking of splashing out on Alpha H Liquid Gold next, as I get the impression it delivers a helluva lot more for a night-time renewal product!

Available online at Origins, larger Boots stores, John Lewis and all good department stores.
