Harvey Nichols: Grazia Beauty Parlour

16 May 2013

The Laura Mercier counter *drool*

So, last Weds (8th May), me, Lynsey and Roisin met up at Harvey Nichols in Edinburgh for a nice wee shop-in evening, with hair & beauty talks from various beauty industry insiders, as hosted by Grazia Magazine..!

The evening started with a celebratory glass of fizz, which (quite rightly so) was demolished rather quickly, leading to another complementary top-up for all of us!

Once we'd found our seats, it was time to crack on and watch some talks by the beauty professionals! And, hopefully, pick up a few tips & tricks on the way..

The evening started off with a talk by a Chanel consultant, demonstrating the newest shades of colour-popping lipsticks on offer by the brand for SS13. Obviously, I wanted all of them.. lipstick obsessed!

Following on, a consultant from the brand every beauty blogger worth their salt is obsessed with - Space NK - gave a talk on achieving that summer glow. Lots of chatter about NARS' 'Orgasm' blusher (which really did make a few audience members blush) ensued, and brands such as By Terry and Institut Esthederm were discussed. A little higher than I normally go with fake tan (St Tropez is my limit), but interesting to hear about..

Beauty Q&A with make-up artist Krystle Gohel
Following up, a beauty Q&A with make-up artist Krystle Gohel. I love this lady! She's so quirky and awesome, and I'd definitely love her to do my make-up every day, as I tweeted her that very night..!

Lots of tips about how to achieve the perfect '60s winged eye (additionally, a wee switch for older ladies to use softer grey shades), how to contour and how to achieve a smooth base (primer, primer, PRIMER!)

Next up, me, Lynsey and Roisin's favourite - Laura Mercier. We pretty much exclaimed "RIGHT, I'm having ALL the products please..?!" ha! This masterclass explained how to achieve a "flawless face", using Laura Mercier products (naturally). The consultant actually matched me to my Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser later on in the evening, so it was good to see her in action beforehand. She used the Silk Creme Foundation (which everyone raves about), as well as lots of ~magical~ concealing and priming bases which added a beautiful flawless finish to the model's skin.

Finally, haircare with Show Beauty. I wasn't particularly excited by this masterclass as we literally just watched her get a blow-dry using a relatively unknown brand (and I think we all had itchy feet to go buy our products before it closed!) but ah well!

Finally, the glory of Laura Mercier!! I got matched to the 'Nude' shade in Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and ended up buying it (which, fortunately, I'd planned before I went there!), redeeming the £10 entry ticket as part-payment. Review post to follow....!

Roisin had a wee go at the Cover FX counter, testing out their super-powered concealers (which were originally created in order to aid burns sufferers in covering up excess scarring)

And then we all ended up worshipping at the alter of MAC, naturally... (and Lynsey photo-bombed like a pro! Haha)

While I was waiting for everyone to pick up their Fifi Lapin tote bags (filled with some beauty sample goodies!), I had a sneaky glance at the Cambridge Satchels.. (and weeped..)

....and here was my goodie bag! Filled with perfume samples, skin-care samples and a free copy of Grazia Magazine (of course). To be honest, I was most excited about the Fifi Lapin tote bag itself as I really love that wee stylish bunny!

All in all, a lovely night!
