Spa in the City: Edinburgh

11 May 2013

Hey guys,

I have a few posts lined up to show you some recent events I've been to. This week was my last proper week of deadlines (as well as my busiest in terms of blog events!) so I now have time to FINALLY blog..

Last Sunday (May 5th), me and a friend woke up extra early to make it into the queue for free treatments at the annual Spa in the City in St Andrews' Square. Having attended last year, but only turning up at 4pm and missing all the freebies (sad-face), it was great to finally fully absorb the event and get pampered by some of Edinburgh's biggest brand names..

We were in a queue for around 20 minutes, in which time I decided to opt for an Origins facial in the John Lewis tent, which I loved! I've used some of the products before (e.g. A Perfect World cleanser and the Modern Friction exfoliator), but it was nice to try out some other Origins products in my on-going quest for perfect skin..

Origins' personalised treatment list

My favourite of the new-found products I had used on me would definitely be the A Perfect World moisturising lotion (which is actually a toner) and the Make A Difference Plus moisturiser. She also used GinZing eye cream, which gave a nice fresh radiant boost to the eye area. I imagine it would work best over time. I don't currently use an eye cream (mainly because I hope I have youth on my side for the next couple of years), but I'm sure it's better to prepare for rather than tackle eye wrinkles!

My friend opted for a Clarins Back, Neck and Shoulder massage in the Jenners tent, which she loveeed. As a student nurse, she had very tight knots in her shoulder, which the woman apparently kneaded right out.

Following our treatments, we waited to experience a Tigerlily cocktail masterclass! It was fantastic to see the barmen at work, creating two distinct vodka cocktails (using Ketel One vodka). The cocktails were a Ketel One Mule and then a Dutch Courage. My favourite was the Dutch Courage (pomegranate syrup, yum!). Both very refreshing and summery, and available for a pretty awesome £3.95 during the 'After Work' promo at Tigerlily. I am a massive advocate of Tigerlily, and literally drool whenever I'm in there. It's like my second home. Pink, glitz, cocktails & sparkle = yes.

Very suave barmen at work!
We received our goodie bags, with chocolate bars also inside (mine was eaten straight away, oops..) Lots of Edinburgh-based promo from local beauty, lifestyle and restaurant outlets.

Label M split end compact? With a mirror inside and split end wax! Very odd but maybe handy one day?!

All in all, a lovely day in St Andrews Square, and I can't wait for next year! I'm already booked in for a follow-up facial at John Lewis later in the month with Origins (she's noted down to test out the VitaZing moisturiser on me, yay)
