The George Hotel: Summer Menu Launch

1 July 2013

Pan Fried Bream Fillet | 28 Day Aged Orkney Sirloin Steak | Slow Cooked Belly of Pork
As an Edinburgh resident (or Edinburger for all you locals!), when you think of The George Hotel on George Street, you think of the grand splendour of its formidable & majestic building. Situated on the swankiest street in the 'burgh, it's not a place for us Scottish Bloggers to hang out, normally..!

However, this was not just a normal night, as we soon found out when we crossed the threshold of their sister bar/restaurant, The Tempus..

I turned up with my flatmate Maija on Thursday 20th June, expecting much less than we soon experienced! After a wee catch-up with Iona and Gillian (and meeting the lovely Kirstie for the first time at her first Blogger event) over Elderflower Tattoo cocktails - incredible, obviously - we all listened to the George staff introduce the evening.

The General Manager David Welch, Head Chef (of Master Chefs of Great Britain hall-of-fame!) Stewart Jarvie and DADA PR extraordinare Toni all gave us an amazing night!

On with the Starters:

Horrendous photo in questionable lighting.. sorry, folks!
First off, we had: Fishcake with Rocket Salad, Lemon, Parsley & Grain Mustard Aioli.
This was absolutely gorgeous. I polished off the lot and would love to try it again in future!

Followed by: Scottish Field Mushrooms with Rocket Salad & Goats Cheese on Toasted Brioche.
I'm not a massive fan of mushrooms but this was a nice wee dish to kick off a meal!

And: 6 Month Coppa Ham & Buffalo Mozzarella.
Love! This is my favourite type of cuisine, so I was certainly content with it! Nom..

We also had:

Rope Grown Mussels with Shallots, Garlic, Herbs, Fresh Lemon & Cream Sauce
This sneaky wee dish. Now, believe it or not.. I've never tried mussels *ahem*. Yet I was fairly impressed with my first foray into them! Maybe mostly because I don't think their Head Chef could put a foot wrong!

We also had (not pictured): Loch Fyne Smoked Salmon with Horse-radish Crème Fraiche & Watercress Salad and: Crispy Duck with Broccoli, Bacon & Pine Nut Salad and Sesame & Honey Dressing - this was my favourite starter! Love!

The Mains

Pan Fried Bream Fillet | 28 Day Aged Orkney Sirloin Steak | Slow Cooked Belly of Pork
I loved all three dishes! All immaculate. Particularly loving the Sirloin Steak (but hey, who wouldn't..?)

Mini Burgers | Rump of Lamb | Loch Duart Salmon Fillet
Okay, honesty time again, guys... I have never, and will never, eat lamb. Eek, big admission there! As a little country girl, I was surrounded by lambs who I used to feed every spring-time, and at that very moment I made a pact never to eat them. Tragic. I'm quite obviously not a vegetarian, but I just have a soft spot for those little lambs.. haha! Please don't jump on me, Vegetarian Police. It's just a silly tradition. HOWEVER.. I hear it was pretty nice indeed.

Personally, I was all up in those mini burgers. SO GOOD. The George chefs send their own recipe away to Crombie's the butcher, who put together their perfect little Aberdeen Angus burgers. Fab!

The Desserts

Crème Brulee | Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding | Cheeseboard

I loved the Sticky Date and Toffee Pudding most of all here!

Pineapple Carpaccio | Lemon Tart & Clotted Ice Cream
Nom nom NOM! Send me back for all this food, please..

The Surprise

Little did we know, but the George Hotel & DADA staff had planned for us to all be whisked away to the 5th Floor Panoramic Suite for after-dinner Prosecco and a sunset view.. and OF COURSE I had to take a million & one photos!

Thanks to The George Hotel, Edinburgh & DADA PR for a fantastic evening.. I'll certainly be back for a cocktail or two and more of that lovely grub! :)
