The West Port, Linlithgow
Last week, on a rather chilly autumnal Thursday evening, I wrapped up warm and hopped on over to Linlithgow with some of my favourite Scottish blogger girlies to take a gander at the new and improved West Port Hotel..!
The West Port Hotel in Linlithgow is a popular pub with Linlithgow residents, but - considering I've never even explored the town before (!!) - it was brand new to me!

It has undergone a £450,000 make-over which has definitely transformed it into a warm, cosy & chilled out place to go on the type of frosty evening we found ourselves out on. To be fair, we didn't even wanna leave and stayed 'til well after the bar staff had popped off home.. cheeky!

It's kept its historic charm in there though!
I really do rate it as a place to pop in on your travels if you happen to be nearby, cause modern atmospheric pubs are hard to come by these days in sleepy peaceful towns like Linlithgow. Maybe that's just me speaking as a Borders girl where pubs are rather outdated and in need of a good doing over like West Port!

ANYWAY, let's crack on with the best bit - THE FOOD!!!

West Port, Linlithgow | Food
Antipasti board starter
We were presented with lots of lovely antipasti meat and seafood boards to nibble away at with a gratuitous glass of wine or prosecco! I feel like all I've done is eat antipasti recently.. started to really get into sundried tomatoes, which I hadn't before. The West Port did it justice, oh boy! Perfectly cured strips of parma ham, rustic servings of bread alongside a wee bowl of olive oil, plus rocket & sundried tomatoes. Delish! The seafood board was filled up with mackerel, mussels and prawns. Fortunately, I like seafood, and can state that the mackerel was particularly noms!

Chicken Tempura with Sweet Chilli Dip
After our starters, we had possibly the best chicken tempura I've ever had. Terri is gonna love that I'm including our word to describe it: SUCCULENT! It was most definitely that. No bone-dry over-heated chicken in sight here, guys! It was one of my highlights.

Slow Cooked Pulled Pork on Grilled Apple with BBQ Sauce
This little treat is a sample of the slow cooked pulled pork with grilled apple, bbq sauce & potato skins, from the West Port menu. It was a unique wee thing, but obviously makes total sense - pork & apple sauce, anyone..?

Flame Grilled Gourmet Beef Burger
Oh MAN, was this part exciting.. If you know me at all, I'm not one to shy away from a burger (in fact, on our regular dinner dates, me and the girls usually end up with a round of burgers. So predictable!) This one was sooo good. I didn't get to sample the other two types of burger (Teriyaki Chicken Breast or Cajun Chicken Fillet) but I'm sure they were just as good! Our sample sizes were all teeny and cute too. Laaavely.

Dessert Tasters: Vanilla Cheesecake with Fruit Compote, Profiteroles, Sticky Toffee Pudding & Vanilla Ice Cream
Oh, come on.. you know this is the triumphant finale, right here. This super anticipated plate arrived, and me and Lynsey chowed down on our shared plate of sugary goodness with a lot of "mmmm" noises going on. I particularly recommend the sticky toffee pudding! That one kinda blew my mind. Although Leanne actually had her camera ready in my slightly crazed rush to salvage my remaining profiterole (talk about class..), after we'd been for an impromptu tour around the function room area.

The Function Area, all set up for Christmas at The West Port Hotel
How cute, eh? Haven't been out for a Christmas meal in a long time. Always just have Christmas at home as a family, and haven't yet reached the "work Christmas party" stage.. but I'm sure this'd be a nice wee place to come.

Here's various photos of us having a ball:

We also had a wee surprise birthday amongst us, with a lady having kept it quiet all night. The West Port staff treated her to the cutest wee cupcake.

All in all, a fabulous night. I really felt well looked after and all warm & cosy. We were in the new restaurant area, but the bar area is also cute. Lots of hot pink and dove grey fabrics, yay. Check out their website for more images.

Thanks to Toni at DaDa for inviting us out, you lovely lady!

The menu starts from a very reasonable £8.50 for a main course.
