The Review: Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder & NARS Sheer Glow Foundation
Hey you lot!
I'm BAAACK! Hope you missed me.. if not, sod's law. Anywaaay, let's get on to the exciting bits, shall we?
So, a couple of weeks back I treated myself to a day in town, which featured a lot of Boots goodies (post here) and this fabulous pairing: the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder and the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. I know they should probably deserve their own separate posts but, to be honest, let's just get them both SORTED in one super-powered post!
On with the review...
Excited unwrapping of Space NK's beautiful packaging.. ♥
NARS Sheer Glow Foundation in 'Fiji', £30.50
So, it's been a long time coming with the NARS Sheer Glow Foundation purchase.. This was probably my 3rd time getting it tested on me in the Edinburgh branch of Space NK. I just always couldn't justify a) the price, and b) the dewier coverage. Recently, however, I've had a bit of a clear happy skin moment (probably down to my much-raved-about Hydraluron obsession). So I thought I may aswell invest in a base which only adds to the areas I'm lacking in now - glow and radiance. This wee baby has them both in buckets & spades (new phrase for ya there)!
I use the Real Techniques Buffing Brush to really buff NARS Sheer Glow into my skin. It has a light-medium buildable coverage. I would recommend applying a dot of concealer around any redness or blemishes if you really need a higher coverage. I recently watched a YouTube video of Kate from gh0stparties talking of how when her skin is particularly bad, she doesn't stick loads of heavy foundation on top of it. It's best to layer your bases, using perfecting primers (such as Laura Mercier Radiance Primer or, my personal favourite, the Revlon Photo Ready Primer), then buffing in a light base and finishing with a concealer (such as my favourite Collection Lasting Perfection concealer).
I mostly recommend this base for Normal-Dry skin types. It's perfect for bringing a Winter glow!
On to the crowning glory, which I've been using on top of my base to set it..
Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in 'Translucent', £29
This is my newest beauty babe! It was my spur-of-the-moment purchase (the worst kind for the ol' bank balance..) as I've completely smashed my previous Rimmel powder, and really felt guilt-tripped (by my self!) into forking out for a better powder, which doesn't cake on top of my make-up and ruin the entire thing!
So, that is where Laura Mercier came in. Now, I've been nervously tip-toeing around the brand recently, on account of their whole animal-testing drama, and that the Tinted Moisturiser I paid a small fortune for was a complete disappointment (soz to all lovers, I just don't get the hype! Would be more worthy of just mixing your base with moisturiser!)
But, the Space NK assistant heard my disappointment at standard powder offerings and presented this to me. Even just looking at the texture, I WAS SOLD. It's a finely-milled translucent setting powder which feels like silk to touch and really evens out, sets and mattifies your make-up just enough so that you don't look like a Halloween doll with dead-looking skin (always a worry, maybe that's just me..?)
When I apply it with a powder brush lightly, it really comes into its own. I recommend this for all year round. It does its job and doesn't detract from your good work underneath! TOP MARKS, LADIES.
Both items are available at all good beauty counters!
What about you? Have you given in to the lure of the wonderland that is Space NK..?
