A few weeks ago, I was invited by the lovely Toni to the official press launch of Clerk's Bar in Edinburgh. The invite promised "an evening of great beer and great banter!" and, other than the fact I am not a beer drinker, I do indeed like a bit of banter! I had actually visited before for some dinner before heading elsewhere, so I was already familiar with the bar - and its amazing BBQ food! Suffice to say, there were drinks & meaty goodness galore.. prepare to get hungry! Or, if you're a vegetarian, look away now!

On first look when you pop in, Clerk's Bar seems like a laid-back bar, with equally laid-back fun staff. You instantly feel at home when you grab a seat, and there's not one hint of pretentiousness, as seen often in some of Edinburgh's most well-known bars. It's described as:
"The relaxed and casual feel of Clerk’s is reflected in its menu which is brimming with slow cooked smoked BBQ style meats; wings, ribs, burgers, sliders, hotdogs and burritos, making Clerk’s a meat lover’s heaven."
Hello..! I love me some BBQ meat.
We were each given some drinks tokens - or Clerk's Cash! - for the bar and a welcome prosecco with a strawberry (my favourite!), and instantly got chatting to some of the waiters, waiting for the Main Event (masses of BBQ meaty feastiness) to arrive!
First off, we tucked into some Nachos. I'm usually not a fan of Nachos because, to be honest, they're usually consisting of a bag of doritos as the "nachos". But, not at Clerk's Bar! These babies were real home-made Nachos and tasted delish! Talk about a spicy start..
Next up, some Chicken Wings with Blue Cheese Dip were presented. Everyone else was flailing with the messiness of eating chicken wings.. but er, obviously I was in my element. Perhaps not one for a first date, eh?
*Angelic music playing* WOAH WOAH. This big fella was then presented.. we all kinda cooed like crazy food fetishists and dug into the BBQ Beans, Pulled Pork, Half Rack of Ribs, a Small Roast Chicken, Coleslaw, Chips and Corn on the Cob. Oh gosh, even just typing all that out makes me amazed I actually had a bit of everything! You can order a similar feast with one of Clerk's Bar's Sharing Platters (from £11). All of the meat is smoked "low and slow for up to 12 hours" for the most flavoursome result!
Oh my. We also had a few different burger options from the Sliders menu, and this was everyone's favourite: the Mac Cheese Burger.. macaroni cheese contained in a burger!! Well, without the meat, obviously. So good! But erm, ironically.. I happened to lose my actual meat burger from the bun and didn't notice until Jade piped up "where's your burger, Laura?" Cue the whole of Clerk's Bar on the hunt for it under the hashtags #findtheburger #wheresmahmeat. I shouldn't be allowed out. I blame you guys at Clerk's for fuelling me with wine!
|Me looking shameful with my meatless burger..|
I love you guys really, Clerk's! This was the night of my final ever day of Uni, so I was celebrating in style!
Wanna check the bar out? They also do Live Music nights and Wing It (Chicken Wing eating) challenges. Check out their Facebook page for more up-to-date info and head on down with a group of pals for a good value night out with some excellent banterful staff to chat to! Food starts at £5.50 for a Burger/£5 for a Hot Dog. And I hear the craft ale beers are great... not that I could make a judgement!
I'll leave my dignity at the door...
