For my base, I always go for the slightly fuller coverage NARS Sheer Glow. Because of its buildable coverage, I don't tend to use a concealer afterwards. A controversial one, I'm sure, but I've been pretty happy with the results when I've seen photos from events, etc, so it's something I'll likely stick with this festive season! I usually spend quite a while buffing this in. In fact, during our work Christmas do down in Manchester, the terrifyingly bright bathroom lights in my hotel room saw me buffing in for a good 15 minutes. Craaaaaziness...
After setting the base with Laura Mercier Loose Powder, I'm back with my usual Illamasqua Sculpting Duo. I've toned it down in these photos (hello daytime lighting!) but I usually amp the cheekbone contour up for parties. I then highlight the tops of my cheeks/eyebrows with the Hourglass Iridescent Strobe Light, and apply a swirl of Hourglass Ambient Blush in Luminous Flush to my cheeks, before going on to the eyes.
For my birthday, my lovely bestie Emma got me the Charlotte Tilbury Dolce Vita eye palette, and I'm in love! It's exactly what I look for in a palette so the quad of shades all get used usually. However, as I'm aiming to swipe on a red lip with this look, I swerved away from the usual burgundy crease and stuck with a champagne base, dark brown crease/lower lid liner and a pat of gold glitter on the lids. Perfect! Then, I use a black eyeliner (I'm not a fan of the Rimmel Scandaleyes so please shout out your favourites in the comments below!) to create a cat eye flick. After curling my lashes, I apply a good few layers of the Benefit Roller Lash mascara and move on to my eyebrows.
The kind folks over at Zen Lifestyle recently invited me and Gillian in to their salon in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, to try out the HD Brows treatment, so my brows are feeling in a much better shape than they used to. Hence why shading in my brows with the L'Oreal Brow Kit and a Louise Young Angled Brow Brush is much easier these days!
When I was over in Copenhagen back in March, I picked up the beautiful Sephora Lip Cream in 'Always Red'. It's the most long-lasting stay put lip lacquer I've ever come across, so it really does work its magic during the month-long feasting season that is Christmas. A slick of that is really the best way to go! I usually prime my lips and apply a few layers with most lipsticks, but this one doesn't really require much work except ensuring your lips are smooth before applying. It lasts and lasts!
