Spotlight on: Kiehl's Skincare

3 November 2016

Kiehl's is a brand I've dipped into now and again, with a couple of purchases of the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream and the Clearly Corrective Brightening Exfoliator under my belt. However, it's a brand that, as a whole, I'd been slightly overwhelmed by! The sheer variety of skincare products they do is almost endless, with shelves laden with potions and tonics to soothe seemingly any skincare ailment. Surely I should have seen this as a positive, but I just hadn't got around to investigating properly! So, when the Kiehl's Glasgow team got in touch asking if I'd like to come along to an afternoon hearing all about their brand, I was right there ready to be converted as a diehard Kiehl's fan... and converted I was!

Find out what my favourite products from their endless shelves are, and more about their partnership with the MTV Staying Alive Foundation...

From apocathecary to global skincare brand...

Kiehl's started off in 1851 as an apothecary in New York's East Village, with John Kiehl coming on board and renaming it Kiehl's Pharmacy. When Kiehl retired, Irving Morse bought over the pharmacy and was the first to bring in the skincare elements that we know today. That building is still standing today, believe it or not, on Third Avenue and 13th Street!

Supporting local communities

Over the years, Kiehl's has partnered with many charities and organisations across the globe. Their focus and mantra since the very beginning, however, has been on supporting local communities.

This year's campaign with charity partner MTV Staying Alive sees each sale of one of their stunning limited edition tubs of famed Ultra Facial Cream (designed by musician Laura Mvula) provide £10 of the proceeds to the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, supporting 3 projects around the world to empower young women.

My skincare picks from Kiehl's

As well as being an ethical and charitable skincare brand, Kiehl's also do a helluva good range of products... See my picks below:

Clearly Corrective Skin Brightening Exfoliator - I was recommended this by a therapist at Stobo Castle this summer to help balance out scarring on my skin, and it's been pretty helpful over time, combined with the below products.
Clearly Corrective Dark Spot Solution - This is my absolute favourite (!) - since picking it up on a return visit to the Kiehl's Glasgow store a couple of weeks ago, I've been applying it twice daily on scarring. Very gradually, I can see improvement in my skin and I'm already feeling like I have to apply less concealer - phew.
Ultra Facial Cream - Always a winner, how do I sum it up? Well, Greenland explorers used it, so it definitely works in winter old Scotland...
Nightly Refining Micro-Peel Concentrate - I was lucky enough to get a sample size of this in my goodie bag, and I've used it every evening prior to the Dark Spot Solution. Another winner for balancing out my skin and giving it lots of healthy glow the next morning.
