My Autumn Skincare Lineup

My Autumn Skincare Lineup

It's been an absolute age since I wrote a skincare routine update post, with my Winter Skincare Wonder Products post in October 2014 (!!) probably being the last comparable one. I've switched my routine up quite a lot in the last year, downplaying it from high-end to low-end products which still pack a punch. For me, it's always been about the ingredients within the products and what they can do for me, rather than the brand name behind the product. For example, Liz Earle's Cleanse & Polish will never be a fancy product I turn to because of the shea butter within it that wreaks havoc on my skin.

Read on to see what I've been loving, and which gaps in my routine I'd like to fill in this autumn/winter with a li'l skincare wishlist...*

My Morning Skincare Routine

In the mornings, I'm focused on both refreshing and waking up my skin, so I turn to a few trusty methods to do this. To begin with, I use my ol' faithful the Super Facialist  Purifying Cleansing Wash (review here) whilst in the shower, to wash off the skincare remnants from the night before. After that, I spritz on the Botanics Rosewater Toning Spritz to wake my skin up and calm down any redness post-cleanse. Over to my hydrating serum of choice at the moment: the Simple Hydration Booster. It gives me a nice extra boost of hydration when applied pre-moisturiser or mixed in with it. In fact, I'm even using the Simple Vital Vitamin Day Cream with SPF 15 as my moisturiser too. I didn't think I'd ever go back to Simple after my crazed foray into high-end skincare, but, to be honest, my skin is fairly settled down now (guessing it's the fact I've reached my mid-twenties), so it's easier to look after with simpler (ha) products. I finish off with a bit of Bioderma eye cream and then that's me ready to go on to makeup!

My Evening Skincare Routine

In the evenings, it's all about relaxing as opposed to pepping up my skin. If I'm going all out on the pampering, this is the routine I like to use (once or twice a week), but I really only remove the face mask steps from my routine on a normal evening.
To start with, I remove my makeup with the Garnier Micellar Cleansing Water and a few cotton pads. At the moment, I have LVL Lashes (I posted about them recently here), so I can't use an oil-based eye makeup remover or waterproof mascara. It definitely makes my skincare routine in the evenings a lot quicker without heavy eye makeup to remove! I then like to run myself a bath before popping on the L'OrĂ©al Pure Clay Face Mask. The clay really works to draw out all the *gunk* from my skin, without getting tight and hard to get off my face afterwards - like I experienced when using the Origins Clear Improvement mask previously. I then properly cleanse my skin with my Super Facialist cleanser again. Once I feel suitably relaxed and my skin is feeling clearer, I wipe over my skin with the Superdrug Naturally Radiant Glycolic Acid Pads; a budget take on the Nip + Fab ones I've had before. After that, it's on to serum, eye cream and then my Superdrug Naturally Radiant Renewing Night Cream. Et voila! Perfectly blissed out before bedtime.

The Skincare Items I've Got My Eye On

Oh God. So many skincare items are noted down on my ever-extending Evernote app right now. With Glossier's UK release featured on nearly every blogger in the Universe's Instagram accounts, I've been inquisitive about trying out a few things. Having never been the type to rush into a fad, I'm kinda waiting for the dust to settle on this one. But, a couple of items on my list are the Birthday Balm Dot Com (sparkly packaging and birthday cake scent? Sold) and the Super Pure Serum.
As for exfoliating, you may have noticed (if you're an eagle-eyed skincare fan) a distinct lack of manual exfoliating product in my routine. I have definitely embraced the fruit acid toner on that front, but now and again a good ol' gentle manual scrub is a winner to really feel like your skin is clear and evened out. So, I'm currently lusting after the L'occitane range of face masks, particularly the Reine Blanche Illuminating Face Scrub - ooh la la! There's also the reliable Origins Never A Dull Moment Facial Scrub as a back-up option.
And, finally, I'm also in need of stocking up on the Garnier Sheet Masks - utterly wonderful for making my skin feel baby soft during a Sunday evening pamper session.
